Job Description:
The Child Welfare Officer will monitor the safety and well-being of children in care, ensuring their emotional, educational, and physical needs are met through personalized support and coordination with professionals and caregivers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized care plans for each child, addressing emotional, educational, and physical needs.
- Act as a key person in building trust, fostering relationships, and supporting moral development.
- Ensure compliance with child protection policies and procedures; report any concerns to the appropriate authorities.
- Provide emotional support to children to help them cope with past trauma and adjust to their environment.
- Facilitate counseling sessions and group activities aimed at enhancing self-esteem, social skills, and resilience.
- Collaborate with schools, tutors, and educational professionals to support academic progress.
- Organize extracurricular activities that promote learning and holistic development.
- Liaise with social workers, healthcare providers, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive support.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, including a detailed database of each child’s progress and incidents.
- Prepare internal and external reports as required.
- Ensure the residential environment is safe, clean, and conducive to well-being.
- Administer first aid and medication as needed, following established protocols.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with best practices in child care and protection.
- Mentor and support other staff members and volunteers.
- Work to reunite families when appropriate or secure alternative care solutions.
Necessary Skills:
- Strong understanding of child development and trauma-informed care
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
- Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting
- Conflict resolution and crisis management abilities
- Team collaboration and stakeholder engagement
- Familiarity with child protection laws and care standards
- Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity
Education:
Bachelor's Completed / Master's Running or Completed (Preferred)
