Job Description:
The Health Care Assistant / Health Services Coordinator will be responsible for supporting clinical and public health services by ensuring proper patient care, medication management, health record maintenance, and assistance in daily healthcare operations. The role involves working closely with healthcare professionals to implement care plans and maintain hygiene and safety standards in accordance with organizational and legal guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide basic healthcare support to patients under the guidance of licensed medical personnel.
- Assist in administering prescribed medications, including OTC and first-aid care, under supervision.
- Monitor vital signs and report changes in patient health status to the appropriate medical personnel.
- Maintain detailed and confidential patient records, including prescription updates and stock management.
- Ensure proper hygiene practices among patients and assist in maintaining clean and sanitized environments.
- Follow health protocols and infection prevention measures, including safe waste disposal (hazardous/infectious/general).
- Assist with patient counseling, mental health first aid, and routine health checks when required.
- Manage and monitor medicine expiry dates, storage conditions, and maintain accurate stock inventories.
- Coordinate with pharmacies, labs, and external partners for supplies, referrals, or follow-ups.
- Educate patients and families on hygiene, nutrition, and basic health practices.
- Support public health initiatives and awareness campaigns within the community or care center.
- Follow NHPC Code of Ethics and ensure clinical practice standards are maintained.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of any health-related incidents.
- Assist during emergency medical situations and provide first response care.
- Maintain collaboration with in-house and external healthcare professionals.
Necessary Skills:
- Basic knowledge of healthcare procedures, medications, and public health practices
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidential medical records accurately
- Familiarity with infection prevention and waste management protocols
- Compassionate, patient-focused approach
- Willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Basic understanding of ethical healthcare delivery and code of conduct
Education:
Diploma or PCL in Nursing, General Health, or Public Health (Bachelor’s completed / Master’s running or completed preferred)
Experience:
2–5 years of experience in a relevant healthcare or public health setting
